Cohabitation Agreements

If you share a property with your partner, and that property is owned under both your names, then you may be entitled to half of the property, regardless of how much you invested in it. If you and your partner signed an agreement beforehand, however, then you will usually be entitled to the amount that is in the agreement.

Goodwins Family Law Solicitors can assist you with the drawing up and finalising of cohabitation agreements, meaning that you are protected from unnecessary costs and legal disputes in the event of your relationship breaking down.

We ensure that all cohabitation agreements are clearly defined in order to help you and your partner fully understand what happens to your property as a result of any future separation.

Whatever you and your partner need from your agreement – whether you’re managing many high net worth assets, or just wish to have a fair, simple agreement in place for peace of mind – our personable legal team will guide you towards a favourable result.

Cohabitation Disputes

For unmarried couples, cohabitation disputes tend to arise where there is no cohabitation agreement to refer to in the event of a relationship breaking down. When no cohabitation agreement is in place, then a court application may be required in order to resolve the dispute.

We’ve honed our skills in cohabitation disputes, with high client satisfaction rates and over 25 years of experience in family law cases – including cases involving high net worth clients and assets. If such a dispute arises within your relationship, we’re the people you can trust to handle your case.

At Goodwins, we understand the stress that can be caused by these disputes, and we will work hard to resolve any issues efficiently and fairly, ensuring you and your children can continue with your lives with the least disruption possible.

Our legal team treat each and every cohabitation case with the utmost sensitivity, and our clients remain fully informed and completely prepared throughout the case proceedings.

Testimonials

We are very proud of our reputation and we are committed to delivering a service that completely meets the needs of every individual client. Take a look below at some of our client testimonials:

I found my solicitor – Carla Fishlock very helpful and supportive through my tough time, it was nice to know I could trust her with mine and my children’s best interest at heart all the way through my divorce. I would highly recommend anyone who would need help

Carla, thank you for everything - I'm so very grateful for your invaluable guidance over the past couple of years, which has led to me maintaining a relationship with my children which I feared I would lose, and I would certainly recommend Goodwins to anyone in future who ends up in a similar situation.

My particular proceedings were long and drawn out. The guidance and calming attitude of Nic was invaluable and without it, my patience, temper and ability to think straight would have disappeared long before settlement almost certainly going against me. Nic stopped that from happening and got me the settlement I wanted from day one.

Estella, without your hard work, and also the way you pushed me to get the court paperwork, I would never have got a great result, and for that I need to thank you personally. The work of the barrister in court was spectacular. You are both simply the best.

From the outset, I found Carla to be exceptionally helpful and understanding. She is a naturally empathetic person and she always responded very promptly to my queries. I found Carla’s approach to be thorough and high professional at all times. She is an invaluable asset to your firm. I have highly recommended Goodwins to friends and colleagues as an outstanding law firm in the area of family law.

Ray is brilliant and I must call to thank him. His advice was fantastic and so he was 'value for money' in that sense. Ray was more than a solicitor; he gave me honest friendship and advice. He kept me sane through some very difficult times.
