FAQ: When can I remarry after a divorce?

Posted on: 25 March 2016 by Goodwins Family Law Solicitors

The divorce order is split into two parts. You’ll first receive the Decree Nisi and then later receive the Decree Absolute. The Decree Nisi is a document which states that the court sees no reason why you cannot divorce. The Decree Absolute is a court-issued certificate that concludes the divorce process and confirms that your marriage has officially ended.

You can remarry once you have received the Decree Absolute. It can take a couple of weeks to receive the certificate after the Decree is pronounced. This is because a court manager will need to verify the certificate before it is despatched.

If you would like to arrange an initial fixed fee consultation regarding divorce proceedings, you can get in touch with us today.  Goodwins Family Law Solicitors are always happy to help.
