Raymond Barda

Ray qualified in 1987 as a solicitor. Upon qualifying Ray undertook a mix of family law and commercial litigation until 2001 when he joined Goodwins to exclusively undertake family law.

Over the years Ray has acquired a vast amount of experience in family law, dealing with a wide range and variety of cases, often with complex aspects to them. Nowadays Ray predominantly focuses on high net worth, complex financial proceedings, which often have international elements to them.

During the course of Ray’s career he has had several cases reported in the law reports; the most recent was SvS 2012 EWHC 4251(Fam).

Nicholas Goodwin

Having qualified as a solicitor in 1982, Nicholas has practised as a family lawyer for over 30 years, founding Goodwins Family Law along the way in 1993.

Heading towards retirement, Nicholas no longer undertakes active client work, rather advising the firm in its development and day to day operation.

Estella Brown

Associate Solicitor

Estella qualified in 2006 as a Solicitor and exclusively practices in family law, joining Goodwins Family Law in April 2013 as an Associate Solicitor.

In 2015 Estella became a Resolution Accredited Family Law Specialist with a particular specialism in advising on the law surrounding unmarried couples and financial provision for children. Estella’s caseload comprises high net worth matters consisting mainly of divorce, separation, the financial elements involved in both as well as children disputes. Estella has a particular expertise in dealing with complex financial disputes and children issues resulting from the breakdown of a marriage or cohabitation, including same sex marriages. Many of Estella’s cases involve an international element.

In addition to this, Estella also deals with Nullity proceedings, financial applications on behalf of children (Schedule 1 applications), advising on the impact of religious marriages (especially Islamic marriages) in financial proceedings, and drafting and advising on pre- and post-nuptial agreements, cohabitation/living together agreements and separation agreements. Finally, Estella also deals with cases involving domestic violence issues and can make the necessary applications for protective measures such as injunctions (non-molestation orders and occupation orders) and Prohibited Steps Orders (protective orders relating to children).

Outside of the office, Estella enjoys travelling, live music and films.

Carla Fishlock

Carla joined us in 2007 and started her legal studies shortly after. She became a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, and has now qualified as a Solicitor having undertaken her Legal Practice Course at the University of Law.

Carla's cases include divorces and financial settlements, as well as matters relating to children following the breakdown of a marriage or relationship. She also lends her skills to regularly assist Ray Barda in his high net worth complex proceedings.

Tara Baker

Tara has been with Goodwins Family Law since 1996, joining upon completion of her law degree.

Her areas of expertise include all aspects of divorce and matrimonial finance including domestic violence injunctions. Tara has extensive experience in dealing with Children Act proceedings involving residence and contact (now known as Child Arrangements Orders). Tara has vast experience in obtaining or defending Specific Issue Orders and Prohibited Step Orders.

Further, she has also dealt with cases involving applications to remove from the jurisdiction for the purposes of a holiday, as well as permanent removal from the jurisdiction where international relocation is being considered. Tara's experience also includes dealing with child abduction, disputes relating to a child's schooling or a religious faith a child should be brought up in.

Sandra Blaxall

Practice Manager

With over 26 years’ experience in legal finance, Sandra has been our accounts and practice manager since 1993, as well as being the firm’s Compliance Officer for Finance Administration.

This role means she is responsible for managing aspects of the practice in coordination with the Partners. Her organisational skills, coupled with her personable attitude, means that she is very skilled at resolving legal finance issues, as well as ensuring any problems are dealt with as efficiently as possible.
